Joel Nichols (JD/MDiv ’00), professor of law at University of St. Thomas Law (Minneapolis, MN) has been promoted to full professor.  Sharon Tan (JD/MTS ’91; PhD ’00), McVay Associate Professor of Christian Ethics at United Theological Seminary (Twin Cities), was recently awarded tenure. Tan also serves as the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs.  JD/MTS candidate Amanda Baker was awarded the David R. Blumenthal Award for best graduate paper from the Tam Institute of Jewish Studies. Her paper, “A Higher Authority: Judicial Review of Religious Arbitration,” argues for a new framework for judicial review of religious arbitration, tailored to allow an individual to live according to the dictates of her faith without sacrificing the protections of the secular state.  The paper will be published in the Vermont Law Review.
