Ashley Berner, Deputy Director of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Education Policy, Assistant Professor of Education and a fellow at the Center for the Study of Law and Religion, has written, "No One Way to School: Pluralism and American Public Education," published by Palgrave Macmillan.

Berner argues that the uniform structure of public education has led to their its failure to fulfill its intellectual, civic, and moral aims. She favors a pluralistic, civil society model that has proven successful worldwide. Her book sets out the academic, civic, Constitutional, and philosophical grounds for funding diverse schools, including religious schools.
