    John Bernau is the Director of Digital Scholarship at the CSLR. As a sociologist, his research focuses on the use and evolution of language – especially in religious contexts – and has appeared in the Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, Poetics, Sociological Perspectives, The Sociological Quarterly, and Socius. His dissertation employed recent developments in computational text analysis to examine how American discussions of death and dying have changed over the last fifty years.

    He previously served as a Digital Scholarship Specialist at the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship (ECDS), where he taught interactive workshops on data analysis and visualization; and served as the Editorial Associate of Atlanta Studies as their Digital Humanities Fellow.

    John Bernau received his PhD in Sociology from Emory University and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Philosophy from the University of Iowa.
