RICHARD W. GARNETT is Professor of Law and Associate Dean at the University of Notre Dame, where he teaches and writes about constitutional law and religious freedom. His areas of research interest include Catholic social thought, church/state relations, and free speech. Garnett has served as chair of the American Association of Law Schools’ Section on the Law and Religion and as chair of the Section on Constitutional Law. His commentary has appeared in publications such as USA Today, Commonweal, and The Weekly Standard, The Wall Street Journal, The Chicago Tribune, and First Things. Garnett is a founding contributor to Mirror of Justice, a blog dedicated to the development of Catholic Legal Theory. Professor Garnett is a lay consultant to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Committee on Religious Liberty.
