Jonathan Miller Presents on Freedom of Religion in Argentina |

On September 9, 2024, the CSLR was joined by Professor Jonathan Miller of Southwestern Law School, a distinguished scholar on Latin American legal institutions. Whitney Barth and Michael Broyde gave a few opening remarks and introduced Miller to the audience of students, staff, and members of the CSLR community gathered in the Hunter Atrium. 

Miller’s presentation explored how international trade created freedom of religion in Argentina. Specifically looking at how the material conditions of Argentine elite — including the need for trade, investment, and immigration in the 19th century — required deliberate adoption of a governing ideology that included freedom of religion. An animated Q&A followed Miller’s remarks. The event concluded with a reception in Hunter Atrium.
