Michael Broyde Book Talk and Panel on Jewish Law and International Law
At 4:15pm on Wednesday, February 25, the CSLR community joined together to learn more about Michael Broyde’s (Professor, Emory Law) new book, “Jewish Law and International Law: Sovereignty and Exogenous Authority in a Transnational World.” The CSLR hosted this event in collaboration and the Center for International and Comparative Law, both physically, at the Hunter Atrium at Emory Law, and virtually, on Zoom. With much gratitude to the co-sponsors of the event the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies, the Department of Religion, and the Tam Institute for Jewish Studies.
Following a brief presentation Broyde was joined by panelist Maria Teresa Gil Bazo (professor of international law and International Relations, University of Navarra), Rabea Benhalim (Associate Professor of Law, University of Colorado Law School), and Judith Hahn (Professor of Canon Law, Bonn University) who shared their perspectives on the text. Following the discussion among the panel, a productive round of questions from the audience took place. After the question-and-answer period concluded, in-person guests were encouraged to engage more deeply with their preliminary thoughts about the text at the following reception as the event came to an end.
