Emory Law Students Compete in Rome

Over spring break, Emory Law School students Siji Deleawe, David O’Brien, Andrew Newell, and Gavin Cranney competed in the International Law and Religion Moot Court Competition hosted by St. John’s University in Rome, Italy. At the competition Andrew Newell (JD ‘26) won best oralist in the European Court of Human Rights portion, joining CSLR student Jacopo Caparelli (JD ‘26) who received the honor last year. 

The Emory Law teams were coached by a trio of mentors. The coaching trio comprised of Eric Wang (McDonald Scholar in Residence and Emory Law alum), Becky Grinstead-Depp (an attorney who formerly worked at the South Carolina Supreme Court and who is now a Candler School of Theology student), and Whittney Barth (Associate Teaching Professor and Executive Director of CSLR).  

This year’s international moot court team’s performance continued to build on the legacy of the Center’s teams both past and present. In February, Jennings Dixon (JD ‘27) and Anders Liman (JD/MTS ‘27) competed at the Tenth Annual Notre Dame National Appellate Advocacy Tournament for Religious Freedom. At the end of March, Madison LeRoy (JD/MDiv ‘28) and Kyle Sung (JD ‘27) will compete in the Touro Law Center’s Law and Religion Moot Court competition.
