Curriculum Vitae

    Dr. Rahimjon Abdugafurov is a post-doctoral fellow in Islamic Legal Studies at the CSLR since August 2020. He is also a senior fellow and senior lecturer in addition to serving as a deputy director for the Law and Islam program. Dr. Abdugafurov received his PhD from Emory’s Islamic Civilizations Studies Program. He also received a Graduate certificate in Jewish Studies from Tam Institute for Jewish Studies at Emory University.

    Dr. Abdugafurov is currently involved in two projects: (1) Islamic Political Theory, and (2) Muslim polygynous practices in Central Asia. His research interests also include Islamic Religious Humanism, Muslim relations with non-Muslims, and Islamic Law with focus on women’s rights and justice. 

    Dr. Abdugafurov has previously published articles on Sufism, Islamic Law, and on Central Asian Studies. He has also produced a documentary film called “Bukharan Jews: Memories of a Disappearing Past.”
