CSLR public programs include panels, lectures, interviews, conferences, and webinars that routinely attract scholars, religious leaders, government officials, and leading practitioners from around the world as well as nationally and internationally known scholars on the Emory campus. The Center also offers mini-courses with subject experts through Canopy Forum, and produces a podcast, Interactions, on the role of law and religion in the world today.
Restoring Religious Freedom Lectures (2015 – 2018)
The Restoring Religious Freedom Lectures are part of CSLR's Restoring Religious Freedom Project, directed by Mark Goldfeder. These lectures from 2015 – 2018 include talks by Tracey Hucks, Shahar Lifshitz, Douglas Laycock, and a conversation between Ján Figel’, EU Special Envoy on Freedom of Religion or Belief, and W. Cole Durham, Founding Director of the International Center for Law and Religion Studies.
Christianity and Human Rights in Africa (2018)
John Wamwara, Dooyeweerd Fellow and SJD Candidate at Emory Law School, presents a three-part series on "Christianity and Human Rights in Africa." His topic is "The Church, the State, and Human Rights in Kenya: An Historical Overview." This presentation was delivered in the Harold J. Berman Library in the Center for the Study of Law and Religion on Feb. 6, 2018.
The Pursuit of Happiness (2010 – 2015)
CSLR launched The Pursuit of Happiness Project in 2010 as a way of putting religion and science in conversation, focusing on the relation between altruistic love and happiness, retrieving some of the rich traditional teachings captured in this ideal, and reconstructing the idea of happiness in light of the new findings of the human and social sciences and of the new liberties of constitutional democracies. These lectures showcase the findings and teachings of this five-year project.
When Law and Religion Meet (2008 – 2013)
This series provides a forum for religious leaders to discuss difficult legal, moral, and ethical issues facing their religious communities.
Family Forum Series (2003 – 2007)
The Family Forum Series is part of the Child in Law, Religion, and Society project. Series topics have included same-sex marriage, church-state issues in American organized religion, the spiritual yearning of children living with the challenges of abuse, war, poverty, and family instability, and a conversation with former President Jimmy Carter.
