Brent A. Strawn, D. Moody Smith Distinguished Professor of Old Testament and Professor of Law at Duke University. In addition to authoring over 250 articles, essays, and contributions to reference works, he has authored 6 books, and acted as editor for over 25 volumes, including the Common English Bible (2011) and the New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition (2022) for which he also served as a translator.  As a senior fellow at the CSLR, Strawn has contributed to volumes including: Christianity and Criminal Law (2020), Christianity and Private Law (2021), and The Oxford Handbook to Christianity and Law (2023). He has also acted as editor-in-chief of The Oxford Encyclopedia of the Bible and Law (2 vols., Oxford University Press, 2015) which received the Dartmouth medal for most outstanding reference work from the American Library Association. Strawn is an ordained elder in the North Georgia Conference of The United Methodist Church and regularly speaks and preaches at churches across the country. He has also appeared on CNN many times to discuss wide-ranging issues. His present work in the area of law and religion focuses on the legal traditions of the Hebrew Bible and notions of intentionality in relation to criminal law.
