David Benger | Emory University School of Law | Atlanta, GA

David Benger is a Research Fellow at the Center for the Study of Law and Religion at Emory University. He is working with Michael Broyde on a project on the contributions of traditional Orthodox Jews to American legal history and discourse. He was previously a commercial litigation associate at Steptoe & Johnson, and a Research Fellow at the Center on the Legal Profession (CLP) at Harvard Law School. He has a background in international law and counter-terrorism, and has worked at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (in Phnom Penh), the International Criminal Court (in The Hague), and the New York County District Attorney’s Office. His analysis has been published by The Boston Globe, Seattle Times, NY Daily News, Lawfare, The Jewish Press, The Algemeiner, The Times of Israel, Opinio Juris, The University of Chicago Booth Review, and The MirYam Institute.

David earned his JD from Harvard Law School, where he was a Senior Editor on the National Security Journal and an Executive Editor on the Journal of Law and Public Policy, as well as Vice President and Events Chair of the HLS Alliance for Israel. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Russian Studies summa cum laude from Brandeis University and a Master of Arts in Global Affairs from Tsinghua University (Beijing) where he studied as a Schwarzman Scholar. He also served as a law clerk to a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
