Yehonatan Elazar-Demota has a master’s degree in Anthropology and Religious Studies from Florida International University and a PhD in International Law from the University of Amsterdam. He has served in a variety of religious roles in the rabbinic community in America, the Caribbean, and Europe, although currently is focused mainly on academia. In 2020 and the beginning of 2021, Elazar-Demota was a visiting lecturer at Universidade Lusófona Porto, at the department of European Studies and Political Science. Currently, he is a post-doctorate research fellow in the political history and urban history departments at the University of Antwerp and an affiliated fellow at the Center for the Study of Religion at Emory University. Elazar-Demota has published a few books and many articles in Spanish, Portuguese, Hebrew, and English on Western Sephardic Jewry.
