William K. Warren Chair of Catholic Studies and Research Professor, School of Law, University of Tulsa

Russel Hittinger is William K. Warren Chair of Catholic Studies and Research Professor, School of Law, University of Tulsa. Hittinger specializes in issues of philosophy, theology, and law. He is Alonzo McDonald Senior Fellow for Christian Jurisprudence at CSLR. He has taught at Fordham University and at the Catholic University of America, and has taught as a Visiting Professor at Princeton University, New York University, Providence College, and Charles University in Prague. In 2014-2015, he was a Visiting Ordinary Professor in the School of Business and Economics at the Catholic University of America.

He has been member of the Pontificia Academia Sancti Thomae Aquinatis  (Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas) since 2001. He was elected a full member (ordinarius) in 2004 and appointed to the consilium or governing board (as consiligere) in 2006 and again in 2012.  On Sept. 8, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Hittinger as an ordinarius in the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.  He is one of three lay academics in the world to serve as an ordinarius two Pontifical academies. 

His books and articles have appeared in the University of Notre Dame Press, Oxford University Press, Columbia University Press, Fordham University Press, Review of Metaphysics, Journal of Law and Religion, Review of Politics, and several American and European law journals.

Hittinger holds a doctorate and a master of arts in philosophy from St. Louis University. He holds a bachelor of arts from the University of Notre Dame.
