Gideon Sapir is Professor, Faculty of Law, Bar-Ilan University. Sapir’s research interest is in constitutional law, with concentrations in religion-state issues and constitutional theory. His books in Hebrew include, Religion and State: A Philosophical-Legal Inquiry, with Daniel Statman (2014), Constitutional Revolution in Israel: Past, Present & Future (2010), and Essays in Honor of Izhak Englard, co-edited with D. Barak-Erez (2009). He has two English-language books coming out in 2017: Israeli Constitution: From Evolution to Revolution (Oxford University Press, 2017) and State and Religion in Israel: Philosophical-Legal Inquiry, with Daniel Statman, (Cambridge University Press, 2017). His articles have appeared in the Journal of Law and Religion, Emory International Law Review, and other publications. He has written many book chapters in English and Hebrew.

Sapir has been a visiting professor and scholar at Northwestern University, Emory University,  Monash University, and the University of Toronto. He is a Senior Fellow at the Kohelet Policy Forum. At Bar-Ilan, he founded a disability rights legal clinic and an elderly rights legal clinic.

Sapir holds an SJD and an LLM from Northwestern University, a law degree from Bar-Ilan University, and a Rabbinic Degree from the Israeli Chief Rabbinate.
