Robert F. Cochran, Jr. is Louis D. Brandeis Professor and Director, Herbert and Elinor Nootbaar Institute on Law, Religion, and Ethics, Pepperdine University. Cochran teaches legal ethics, torts, criminal law, and religion and the law. He is the author of more than 50 articles and 10 books, including Agape, Justice, and Law: How Might Christian Love Shape Law?, with Zachary Calo (Cambridge University Press, 2017), Law and the Bible: Justice, Mercy, and Legal Institutions, with David VanDrunen (InterVarsity Press, 2013), and Lawyers, Clients, and Moral Responsibility (Second Edition) (West, 2009).

He is the founder or co-founder of Pepperdine University’s Union Rescue Mission Legal Clinic; Herbert and Elinor Nootbaar Institute on Law, Religion, and Ethics; and Global Justice Program. He has traveled to Rwanda, Uganda, Sudan, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam advising governments on religious freedom issues, assisting students with justice-related projects, and lecturing on Christianity and law.

He holds a juris doctor from the University of Virginia and a bachelor of arts from Carson-Newman College. He also did graduate work in theological studies at University of British Columbia and Regent College.
